The times they were a-changin' and at UCLA it was no different. With the war raging in Vietnam and political assassinations on American soil, UCLA Freedom Riders took the fight across the country for civil rights and a Bruin ventured into space. It was a time when UCLA students refused to accept the status quo, staging protests and sit-ins, blazing a path in search of a more just and equitable world. The era brought forth the first words across the Internet in the midst of the golden age of UCLA sports.
For the third consecutive year, UCLA has been named the No. 1 public university by U.S. News & World Report, ranking 20th overall. The school also ranked first for ethnic diversity and best public college for veterans. Earlier, UCLA topped the list of public institutions in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings.
In 2018-19, UCLA Alumni hosted more than 1,300 programs to celebrate, educate, empower and unite Bruins, and welcomed over 4,000 Bruins to campus for Centennial Alumni Day. Here are just a few of the amazing stories that highlight our wide range of programming, innovative approaches and overall impact.
From Aug. 18-28, a UCLA delegation led by Chancellor Gene Block traveled to Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo to celebrate UCLA's Centennial with the local Bruin community. Alumni, students and faculty presented their hopes and dreams and "big idea" for the next century.
Enjoy three fun-filled days seeing campus through your Bruin’s eyes. Activities include a special breakfast with the chancellor on Friday, Oct. 25, exclusively for alumni parents and their UCLA undergraduates.
In this Centennial year, you have the opportunity to act as an important bridge from our illustrious past to our bright future by participating in the Alumni Mentor Program. Guiding the next generation of Bruins not only positively impacts their future, but promises to enrich the both of you.
