Dear Alumni Scholar,

Hello! My name is George Brown and I am your Alumni Scholarships advisor. When you received the Alumni Scholarship, you automatically became an Alumni Scholar and a member of the Alumni Scholars Club. That means you’re already a part of a community of students before you even get to campus.

The Alumni Scholars Club (or ASC) is under the umbrella of UCLA Alumni Affairs. We believe that student support goes beyond the monetary contribution of the scholarship. To see what ASC has to offer please visit alumni.ucla.edu/asc.

As an Alumni Scholar you also are eligible for need-based grants from UCLA Alumni Affairs. If you filed a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), the UCLA Financial Aid Office has calculated your financial need (if any) and will inform us if you have been offered any work study, Perkins or subsidized Stafford loans. This is an automatic process and does not require you to complete any additional applications. We will then be able to award you a need-based grant up to $5,000 for your first year of study. We will notify you in the beginning of September if you have qualified for a grant, and advise you of your grant amount. The grant amount will then offset your loans and work study so that you do not have to work or borrow the full amount.

As you prepare for your transition to college life, you may have some questions about UCLA. Find the answers you’re looking for on a website just for new Bruins at admissions.ucla.edu/newbruins.

Don’t forget that Orientation is coming up soon. For information, visit admissions.ucla.edu/newbruins/orientation.htm

If you still can’t find what you need feel free to give me a call or send me an email. As your advisor, I am a resource for questions about housing, financial aid and other concerns.

Enjoy your summer!

Sincerely,

George Brown
