For the first time ever, UCLA stands alone as the number one public university in
the nation according to the 2019 U.S. News & World Report "Best Colleges"
rankings. Last year, UCLA tied with UC Berkeley for number one and, in preceding
years, consistently ranked just behind its older sister school. Overall, UCLA is
tied at 19th with Washington University at St. Louis. Other California schools listed
in the top 25 include Stanford (7), Cal Tech (12), UC Berkeley (22) and USC (22).
