UCLA students, staff, faculty and alumni have been at the forefront of advocating for and advancing representation of the LGBTQ community. From the University's first Gay Awareness Week in 1974 to the Williams Institute, we're celebrating UCLA’s influential LGBTQ Bruins for the role they’ve played in moving us forward.
The tributes poured in for this year's graduating class, which featured a virtual commencement ceremony with keynote speaker George Takei '60, M.A. '64. Members of the graduates' families, as well as members of the UCLA family, joined the celebration through a collection of heartwarming Bruin shout-outs.
A tradition that began in 1945 was nearly canceled due to the challenges brought on by the pandemic. Thanks to the fortitude, commitment and creativity of its organizers and performers, the show was live-streamed for the first time to thousands on May 29.
