May 23 officially marks UCLA's 100th birthday, the date in 1919 when Governor Stephens
signed Assembly Bill 626 into law, turning the Los Angeles State Normal School into
the Southern Branch of the University of California. Read on to learn the genesis

The celebration of 100 years starts on May 18, 8 p.m., as Royce Hall transforms
with a spectacular Lighting the Way Projection Show. The show is free and open to
the public. Then on May 20, join the special celebration at the State Historic Park
in Sacramento.
The excitement is building as thousands of Bruins will descend upon campus on May
18 for day-long festivities, totaling more than 100 sessions, tours and experiences.
