On Aug. 2, 2027, the world will witness one of the most extraordinary solar eclipses in modern memory. Known as the Eclipse of the Century, this will be the longest total solar eclipse on easily accessible land in the 21st century.
Stretching across parts of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, this total solar eclipse will last up to six minutes and 23 seconds — more than double the duration of most eclipses.
We’ve arranged for three different options to view this historic total solar eclipse; one land tour to Tunisia and two cruises in the Mediterranean. See below for more information on each tour; interest is already strong from travelers.
All of our 2027 tours are now up online. Visit our homepage to see where else UCLA Alumni Travel will be going next year. We’d love to hear from you, so contact us by phone 310-206-0613 or email travel@alumni.ucla.edu. We hope to see you on a UCLA Alumni Travel tour soon!
In the company of Professor Amy Mainzer, Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences, view the eclipse from the port city of Sfax. Also explore Tunis and other impressive archeological sites, including the Medina in Sfax, one of the best-preserved Arab-Muslim city plans in the Mediterranean.
With Professor Andrea Ghez, Department of Physics and Astronomy, sail in the path of this rare astronomical event aboard the deluxe Wind Spirit. From Rome to Taormina, visit two UNESCO World Heritage sites: Arab-Norman Palermo, Sicily, and the city of Valletta, Malta.
With astronomy experts onsite, enjoy an eclipse-focused itinerary aboard Regent Cruises’ Seven Seas Grandeur. On this all-inclusive luxury experience, cruise from Barcelona to Rome, and view the eclipse at sea in the Mediterranean.
If you’d like to catch the 2026 total solar eclipse, join Professor Jean-Luc Margot, Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences, Aug. 7-15, 2026. Experience this phenomenon in the heart of Spain in the Castile-León region – a sprawling land of ancient Spanish kingdoms, dotted with beautiful towns, each with its own castle and cathedral offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
