Welcome back, Bruins. Here's a quick round-up of events, programs and internships that should help make your start to 2020 a little smoother.
Ben Gumpert ’02is the President & Chief Operating Officer of Sacramento Republic FC. He helped to lead the effort to bring MLS to Sacramento under the direction of ownership, and oversees the full range of Republic FC’s operations, including oversight of all business and soccer operations for the club since 2017 as well as a focus on prospective MLS operations and new stadium development. Sacramento Republic FC has set records across its league in sales, attendance, retail and marketing categories and has reached the playoffs in every season. The team was officially named to MLS in October 2019 and will play its first MLS season in 2022 in a new downtown stadium. Read more about Gumpert in his "Excellence in Action" interview.
The start of the new year presents the perfect opportunity to reflect on your time at UCLA so far and think about what you want to achieve by the end of this academic year and/or graduation. Here are four activities to help you establish new goals for 2020 and beyond:
Take inventory of your skills and determine which of them you want to build upon for your career.
Research careers of interest and measure those careers against your list of preferred skills.
Find a volunteer opportunity or internship in a field or industry that interests you.
Identify UCLA alumni with whom you'd like to set up informational interviews (UCLA ONE and LinkedInare great tools for this).
Take advantage of that energy you're bringing back to campus and get started on one of these activities this week! You never know where it might take you.
