Professional Tip
Many large companies (think Amazon, Google, and many hospitals and universities) use an automated Applicant Tracking System to screen job applicants. This means a real person isn’t reviewing your resume unless you make it past the computer algorithm. The key is to use key words and phrases from the job description in your resume. For example, if the job description states “three years of project management experience in a fast-paced environment” is required, add a Skills and Qualifications section near the top of your resume and list “three years of project management experience in a fast-paced environment” as one of the bullet points. Of course only do this if it’s true! Another option is to re-name the Experience section of your resume to Project Management Experience and list your relevant positions below. Always print out the job description and highlight the key words and phrases to help you tailor your application materials.
