Dream It! Do It! My Half-Century Creating Disney’s Magic Kingdoms
by Marty Sklar, Disney Legend and Imagineering Ambassador

  • When Walt Disney had an idea why was “no” always the wrong answer?
  • How did the original “It’s a Small World,” created for the 1964 World’s Fair, revolutionize the way Disney told a story, while moving thousands of people through the attraction per hour?
  • What germinal idea did Walt Disney have while eating peanuts and sitting on a park bench at Beverly Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard that led to the creation of Disneyland?
  • How did the Editor of UCLA’s Daily Bruin come to supervise the design and creation of Disney theme parks worldwide?

Marty Sklar began his Disney career while still a student at UCLA, one month before opening day of Walt Disney’s original theme park. He is the only Disney Cast Member who has participated in the opening of all 11 Disney Theme Parks. Inducted as a Disney Legend in 2001, Marty has a “proprietors” window above City Hall on Main Street, Disneyland Anaheim. Walt Disney created and bestowed the window tribute on the people who helped Walt realize his dream of Disneyland. Former Disneyland International chair Jim Cora has said of Marty, “He understands the Disney way because he learned it at Walt’s knee. He is the keeper of the keys, the conscience, the Jiminy Cricket for the organization”.
