the start of an era
The alumni network is honored to announce that Alexandra Crosnoe exp. ’27 will serve as Daily Bruin’s editor-in-chief for the 2026-27 school year. Crosnoe is a public affairs student who hails from Dallas, Texas, and has worked on The Bruin since fall 2023. She most recently served as The Bruin’s News editor and hopes to expand the paper’s reach and engagement through social media in the upcoming year.
Crosnoe has a message for our network:
To members of the Daily Bruin Alumni Network,
I’m honored to have been appointed as The Bruin’s 2026-27 editor in chief. I consider it an enormous privilege to take the helm of such a storied institution.
I want to start by acknowledging that it is not an easy time to be a journalist. Local papers are closing, and legacy outlets are laying off reporters. Student newspapers are losing their print products. An October 2025 Gallup poll found that just 28% of Americans expressed faith in the media — a record low.
It’s important to me that we consider how we can continue improving our paper amid – and in response to – these unprecedented budgetary and social challenges. As editor in chief, I’m focused on engaging readers by increasing collaboration between multimedia and written content sections, spending more time reflecting on and critiquing our content, leveraging social media, and rethinking the way we recruit applicants. It all comes down to being more intentional.
With that said, you all should feel hopeful knowing that The Bruin is not experiencing any shortage of dedication or morale. Our staff has grown to more than 500 students across 16 sections. We are more dedicated than ever to keeping a record of UCLA, serving our readers and unflinchingly pursuing the truth.
We can only do so much on our own, though — the support of our alumni is essential in keeping The Bruin afloat. Your donations, guidance and feedback will allow us to continue on as one of the nation’s strongest student newspapers. We are incredibly grateful to have you all backing us.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Crosnoe
2026-27 editor in chief
Joining Alexandra will be managing editor Lulu Ekizian exp. ’27 and digital managing editor Nora Gallagher exp. ’27. Ekizian will oversee The Bruin’s written content sections, and Gallagher will oversee The Bruin’s multimedia sections. Congratulations to all!
awards all around
Congratulations to the Daily Bruin’s staff, which took home 21 awards at the Associated Collegiate Press Spring National College Media Conference in San Francisco in March! Top awards included the ACP Online Pacemaker award, which recognizes overall excellence in college journalism, and the California College Media Association best photo awards for photos featured in PRIME and the sports section.
Many thanks to Daily Bruin’s class of graduating seniors, including editor-in-chief Dylan Winward ’26, who led the staff through a demanding news cycle and oversaw the paper’s stellar coverage. The alumni network looks forward to welcoming the graduating class into our ranks in June!
