Happy 2023 Lambda! I am so excited that we are finally returning to in-person events! The last few years have been an unprecedented time, but through the challenges we have found ways to connect and share with each other at a distance. However, being able to meet face-to-face is such a vital way to build community, which is why I cannot wait to meet you all throughout the year at the wonderful events that our board has planned.
Though I served as co-chair last year, I want to introduce myself to those of you whom I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet. My name is Aurora Garcia, pronouns she/her/ella, and I graduated from UCLA with a B.S in mechanical engineering in 2014. At UCLA I felt not only accepted, but supported in being out and proud, and I was always able to be my full self as I participated in many groups throughout campus — including the UCLA Marching Band, Gamma Rho Lambda, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and others. I found UCLA Lambda Alumni Association just as I was moving back to Los Angeles three years ago, and I have been so grateful ever since. Lambda has given me back that same feeling of community that I did not realize I missed so much since graduating. I hope to lead Lambda, in collaboration with my amazing co-chair, Jade, in such a way that all of our alumni members and current UCLA students feel the same sense of welcoming and uplifting community.
Here’s to a wonderful year for Lambda!
