As we witness the devasting effects of the recent fires in Maui and Lahaina and track the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, we are thinking about how we can and do have an impact on these pressing social issues. This fall, Diversity Programs & Initiatives is featuring alumni speakers to explore themes of environmental justice and sustainability, and to amplify the voices of women of color leaders in the entertainment industry. You can learn about these upcoming signature events in our "engage" section below.
We also want to highlight that UCLA Health is joining in supporting the American Red Cross with its Maui Wildfire Recovery Fund, and UCLA Athletics is raising funds for the Hawai'i Community Foundation — Maui Strong Fund with the sale of UCLA "Maui Strong" T-shirts to recognize the resilience and unity of the island's people.
UCLA Extension is teaching Bruins why WGA writers went on strike this year and what’s at stake for them in the future in a panel discussion featuring writers at various stages of their careers in this pre-recorded webinar.
We hope that you will take time to reflect on these community-wide efforts and support where you can. Please join us in community this fall as we explore, learn and uplift our alumni. Write to our team at any time to share your questions, comments or concerns at diversity@alumni.ucla.edu.
