Turn on a TV or radio, pick up a newspaper or magazine, and the words climate change, energy conservation and sustainability punctuate diverse predictions for the planet. Research shows that low-income communities do not benefit from public incentive programs to reduce emissions as much as high-income communities. What some people view as suburban blight, others call home. So how do we build equity and reverse the damage we have caused?
Tune in for an honest conversation about climate change and sustainability as it reverberates beyond our current generation’s time as earth's guardians. Dr. Pincetl has been "on a quest to recapture human scale, respect for nature, and new pathways to ensure equality and dignity for humans in their daily lives."
Learn how IoES and the UCLA Sustainability Grand Challenge at UCLA moves "science to action on the front lines of environmental progress" through its interdisciplinary approach. Forty-five professors work to make up the robust department tackling some of the greatest threats facing our environment today. Hear how the work and research at UCLA will create a better world for tomorrow.
The UCLA Alumni Town Hall is a gathering place where Bruins can have their voices heard, ask essential questions, and receive transparency and truth. Sign up now to submit questions that will help guide the conversation.
Dr. Stephanie Pincetl, Professor-in-Residence at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES), conducts research on environmental policies and governance aimed to produce “science in the public interest.” Dr. Pincetl is committed to bringing together interdisciplinary teams of researchers across the biophysical and engineering sciences with the social sciences to address problems of complex urban systems and environmental management. She believes that only by this type of integrated, interdisciplinary research can we begin to understand the complexity and multidimensionality of humans and nature today.
