Stand Together for Better

It’s been a little over a month now that safer-at-home orders have been in effect in Los Angeles so that we can all do our part to address this pandemic. As we have seen of late, we all can have very different reactions and responses to this moment in which we are living. Although some are standing up in ways that are counterproductive to our current state of affairs, we are also seeing individuals — Bruins — standing up for students, families and communities — all for the better.

This week, we want to offer ways for your body, mind and heart to take a stand for the better. Listen to how Bruins are standing up for their communities, or take a stand yourself with an email to Congress. Get up and dance. Laugh and eat so much that you have to get up to stretch.

As always, feel free to forward this to a friend who could use a “stretch break.” Follow us on Instagram at @ucladiversealum. Please let us know if there is a topic you are interested in by submitting ideas to diversity@alumni.ucla.edu. Some of our future offerings will include:

MOVE
Get your groove on for a good cause for a Friday virtual dance party hosted by the Undocumented Alumni Association of UCLA. The event also benefits the immigrant communities of Los Angeles!

ADVOCATE
Stand up for your family, Bruin community and the larger University of California community and share with Congress why COVID-19 legislation is essential.

EAT
You will need a stretch after getting stuffed with takeout from The Oinkster, Pilipino Bruin-owned by Chef Andre Guerrero '78.  We love the pork adobo on a pan de sal bun!

LISTEN
D’Artagnan Scorza ’07, Ph.D. ’13,  is the latest guest on our Bruin Success Podcast. He shares how he’s standing up for the communities he serves and how COVID-19 has impacted social justice efforts in education.

WATCH
Laugh at — and with — Alumna Kausar Mohammed and Upright Citizens’ Brigades first all-South Asian stand up and sketch comedy team. They created a new Instagram “how to” series, “The Get Brown.”

As always, we thank you for your love and support — our diverse alumni community means the world to us.

Stand Together,
