In honor of the family of standout UCLA basketball players Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Gabriela Jaquez, the UCLA Latino Alumni Association and UCLA Alumni Association launched the Jaquez Family Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support for incoming freshman and transfer students at UCLA.
The new fund was announced at the April 13 fundraising event at UCLA’s Pavilion Club that paid tribute to Jaime Jr. and Gabriela, their parents and their grandparents, all of whom have been strong proponents of public education, academic achievement and personal excellence.
On Jan. 2, the UCLA Latino Alumni Association and the UCLA Foundation hosted a Jaquez Family Scholarship dinner at a Bruin alumna’s private residence. More than 100 attendees contributed $35,000 to the Jaquez Family Scholarship. To make a contribution, visit the Jaquez Family Scholarship Fund giving website.
OrgullOSOs Abroad: Snaider-Garriga Family Travel Abroad Scholarship
In collaboration with the UCLA Latino Alumni Association, the UCLA International Education Office is pleased to announce the OrgullOSOs Abroad – Snaider-Garriga Family Scholarship, which aims to support UCLA undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who wish to participate in study or internship abroad. It is the donors’ wish to support Latinx students who are first-generation. The scholarship will be awarded to UCLA students participating in one of the UCLA Study Abroad programs (UCLA Travel Study, UCLA Global Internship Program or UCEAP).

The Snaider-Garriga Family Scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from Andres Snaider and Stephanie Garriga. One scholarship in the amount of $4,000 will be awarded for summer/fall 2024.
On Nov. 16, 2023, the UCLA Latino Alumni Association Board hosted our annual Gracias Gathering to show appreciation to the many ULAA donors that contribute to our scholarship program. In addition to hearing a moving story from 2023-2024 scholarship recipient Leila Dubon, we also presented a resolution from the City of Los Angeles to Jaime Jaquez Sr. and Gabriela Jaquez to recognize the Jaquez family’s contribution to the advancement of UCLA academics and athletics through Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Gabriela Jaquez’s contribution to men’s and women’s basketball at UCLA, as well as the family’s recently endowed Jaquez Family Scholarship Fund.
ULAA Scholarship Recipient Luncheon
In November, ULAA Board President Cesar Pacheco and Scholarship Committee Chair Theresa Becerra, along with Scholarship Committee member Jaquelinne Rodriguez, hosted ULAA’s scholarship recipients at a luncheon on campus at Plateia. We are proud to award 13 Latina and Latino Bruins this academic year.
University of California Chicanx Latinx Alumni Association Summit Hosted by UCLA
In December, ULAA Board members attended the University of California Chicanx Latinx Alumni Association (UC CLAA) Summit hosted at UCLA. The UC CLAA is a statewide collective of Latinx alumni from all 10 UC campuses whose mission is to support the overall advancement of the UC to better serve the needs of the on-campus and off-campus Chicanx Latinx community including alumni, staff, faculty and students. UC CLAA Summits provide a unique opportunity to connect with Chicanx Latinx alumni from all 10 UC campuses, stay updated on the latest alumni and UC developments in areas such as binational entrepreneurship, climate change, health equity and alumni engagement, and explore opportunities for new or expanded binational collaborations.
Taquiza Tailgate
Our alumni came together for our Golden State Goodbye: el último adiós! The football matchup between UCLA and Cal was a great opportunity for alumni to mix and mingle with each other during the pregame tailgate.
ULAA Holiday Party and Toy Drive
In December, we gathered at the Bruin alumni-owned Progress Brewery in South El Monte to celebrate the holiday season with ULAA and friends! In collaboration with the Stanford, USC and UC Berkeley Latino Alumni Associations, we came together to mix and mingle while creating space for our families and friends. We also hosted our annual toy drive in partnership with the Children’s Institute of Los Angeles to spread holiday cheer throughout the city.
