Greetings Bruin Family,
This month marks one year since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world, which led to a year of adaptation, flexibility and continued growth for all of us. Each member of our board worked hard to think outside the box and find creative ways to serve our students and alumni. I am also pleased to announce the return of our ULAA scholarship. It is our hope that this aid opportunity will help students ease their financial burden and focus more in school, propelling them toward commencement. If you want to support our scholarship efforts, we are in need of alumni to read and score scholarship applications from the comfort of your own home. Thank you to the alumni who have already signed up to read.
Finally, it is that time of the year when we turn to you, our members, to nominate alumni candidates who you feel would make a meaningful addition to the UCLA Latino Alumni Association Board next year for our open positions. We are now accepting nominations for the 2021-2022 board and committee chairs. There’s no need to wait for someone to nominate you — we welcome and encourage self-nominations!

Scholarship Applications Open
Scholarship time, Bruins! We are so excited that our scholarship application process is now open to California resident high school seniors, admitted for fall 2021 as incoming freshmen, who have made contributions to the Latino/Latina/Latinx community and demonstrate need. The UCLA Latino Alumni Association (ULAA) seeks dynamic leaders interested in organizing our Latino alumni and friends of UCLA for the benefit and advancement of the Latino community.
We are now accepting nominations for executive board and committee chairs for the 2021-2022 term. Executive officers and committee chairs will serve a one-year term that will end on June 30, 2022.

Bruin Spotlight: Carlo Valdes '13
Check out our most recent Bruin Spotlight interview with Latino Bruin and Olympic Bobsledder (2018) Carlo Valdes '13 on ULAA's YouTube channel. We discuss training during a pandemic and how to better support our Latino Bruin athletes. Valdes is a three-time member of the USA bobsled men's national team, and in his first three seasons, he amassed six World Cup medals. Valdes took two years off, but he’s back in 2021 and competing to represent team USA in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. To read his full bio, please visit our blog.
