Summer has been off to a great start and we couldn't be more excited for the next upcoming months. We've held a total of 24 events this fiscal year, with over 1,600 alumni in attendance and raising over $30,000 in scholarships. In June, ULAA was this year's UCLA Award recipient for Network of the Year, where we were recognized for our history of service to the University and scholarship program that has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships to over 800 students since 1991.
In celebration of ULAA's 30th anniversary, we are thrilled to be planning this milestone recognition around our annual Fiesta de Inspiración Scholarship & Alumni Awards Gala on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at La Plaza de Culturas y Artes. We are excited to be welcome our 2019-20 scholarship recipients and recognize our honorees Patricia Perez '87 and Earl Watson '19.
I am honored to announce our newly elected 2019-20 board members: Nicki Beltranena '02, UNEX '10 (secretary), Adrian Meza '04 (treasurer), Marvin Figueroa '03 (community relations), Joshua Coronado'18 (scholarship chair) and David Huizar '10 (membership). They have demonstrated commitment to ULAA's mission, leadership service to the Latino community and vision for the upcoming year. I'm confident that we will continue to carry the momentum forward.
And lastly, I'd like to thank our previous board members: Karla Lopez Aguiñiga '16, Brandon Rivera UNEX '16, Sergio Valenzuela'13, Laura Barrero '13, Maritza Cha '05, M.Ed.'07 and Erika Aspericueta '05 for their hard work, dedication and ongoing support throughout the year. I am grateful to have two returning board members Janette Alvarez '98, M.A.'01 and Luisa Garcia '10 serve on the board again this year.
See you at Fiesta this October. Adelante Bruins!
