We are just days away from celebrating a historic milestone at UCLA. On Saturday, May 18, Bruins will gather on campus and celebrate the University’s first 100 years and kick off a year of festivities, starting with UCLA Alumni Day, which will feature special speakers, campus tours, networking activities and exciting experiences. ULAA will be hosting a signature program that will feature a cooking demonstration of Salvadorian cuisine that you won’t want to miss!
Last month, we hosted a collaborative event with Bruin Professionals at Empire Tavern in Burbank. We also attended the annual Latinx Weekend, where prospective Latinx Bruins had an opportunity to network with alumni, attend workshops, participate in campus tours and gain some of the knowledge and resources needed to thrive as a student of color at UCLA.
Follow our social media channels and stay informed about upcoming events and how to get involved.
Come out and enjoy a fun night of networking with fellow Bruins! Connect with current and graduating students from various on-campus Latinx student groups, including ULAA’s scholarship recipients.
As we prepare our future leaders to master the art of networking before entering the job market, guest speaker Angélica S. Gutiérrez ‘00, Ph.D. ‘12, business professor at Loyola Marymount University, will offer insight on the basic principles of negotiation.
Join us at the historic Mariachi Plaza in the Boyle Heights district as we host a closing ceremony for our month-long Spark Campaign and recognize donors who continue to support our one million dollar scholarship endowment.
We will celebrate our achievements at Xelas, Bruin-owned by Xicana alumna, Corissa Hernandez, M.A. '06, to enjoy the most eclectic selections of Baja California and Los Angeles craft beer. This will be ULAA's "last call" to have your name featured on our donor wall.
A celebration of 100 years begins with one unforgettable day. Make plans to return to campus for the kickoff of UCLA's Centennial Celebration at UCLA Alumni Day. Join us for timely speakers, engaging discussions, enlightening tours and uplifting performances. Online registration has closed, but onsite registration will be available on Saturday, May 18, at Wilson Plaza for $50. Parking for the day is $12. Click here for more information.
Diversity Programs of UCLA Alumni Affairs will be hosting a number of tours and sessions, including:
Sometimes all you want to do is dance. Meet students from Samahang Pilipino and Grupo Folklorico dance groups. They will share the history and joy of the dances, perform a mini set as a demonstration and, in the last half hour, offer lessons to anyone interested in practicing the routines.
Mixin' It Up: Taste of El Salvador 5 - 6 p.m.
Join the UCLA Latino Alumni Association for a delicious edition of this signature program from UCLA Alumni Diversity Programs. This cooking demonstration by Alicia Maher '92, a Salvadorian food expert, award-winner cookbook author, publisher and home-chef, will share techniques and offer tasting samples of the creations.
The UCLA Latino Alumni Association (ULAA) endeavors to provide significant and meaningful support for our future Latino scholars and community leaders. Latino students make up 22% of the student body at UCLA. Join us in supporting the next generation of Latino leaders and changemakers with a gift to the UCLA Latino Alumni Association endowed scholarship fund. In honor of UCLA's Centennial, help us reach 100 donors to celebrate the University’s historic milestone. Any contribution will take us one step closer to reaching and surpassing our goal.
ULAA and Bruin Professionals (BP) enjoyed a Bruin Happy Hour special at The Empire Tavern in Burbank, which is Bruin-owned by Xicana alumna, Corissa Hernandez, M.A. ‘06. Both networks took time to play the traditional Mexican game of chance, ¡Lotería! while the fun continued towards networking with one another. Thank you to BP member Lawrence for capturing the night.
More than 25 Latino Bruins came out to support the soft launch of our second Spark Campaign, the official crowdfunding platform of UCLA. Our goal is to continue providing financial assistance to Latinx students and increase our scholarship endowment as we strive to reach our one million dollar fundraising goal. ULAA also celebrated receiving this year’s UCLA Award for Network of the Year.
