join a dinner that brings Bruins together, whether near campus or around the world.

Dinners for 12 Strangers is a cherished UCLA tradition that unites students, faculty and alumni for an evening of conversation, connection and community. Whether gathered around a table or in a shared virtual space, unfamiliar faces become friendly ones, stories are exchanged and UCLA feels more personal.

Some of the most meaningful Bruin moments happen far beyond lecture halls and campus walkways. They can occur years, sometimes decades, after graduation, when Bruins reconnect through shared experiences, curiosity and conversation. Dinners for 12 Strangers provides that space: a chance to pause, gather and remember what it feels like to belong to something bigger than yourself.

If you’re a student or faculty member, you’ll be thoughtfully paired with a UCLA alum host within 10 miles of campus and receive all the details beforehand. Hosts open their homes or gather nearby to create a warm, welcoming space for conversation beyond the classroom.

If you’re an alum, you can browse available dinners and sign up to attend one near you. Bruins may also host virtual gatherings so guests can log in from anywhere. Casual meetups focus on conversation, connection and fun. These might include guided discussions, informal games or small breakout rooms, all inspired by the host’s creativity and the group’s interests.
