Happy New Year from Westwood! The cruise industry is now rebounding nicely, and we are seeing strong bookings on most of our cruises in 2023. Next week, over 50 travelers are venturing down to Antarctica with Professor Andrea Ghez, Department of Physics & Astronomy and Nobel laureate, and another 47 travelers are joining Professor Robert Buswell, Department of Asian Languages & Cultures, on our Blossoming Japan cruise in April.

Efrain Kristal is a distinguished professor in UCLA's Department of Comparative Literature, which he chaired for ten years until June 2021. He works on topics in Spanish, French, German and Italian, and in the philosophy of art. He has just finished a book on the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges and the two world wars, and is currently working on a book on the philosopher Peter Sloterdijk who taught at the University of Vienna. Kristal was awarded the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award, and was invited to deliver the distinguished UCLA Faculty Research Lecture.
