Their Story:
Our restaurant started in 2009. At the very beginning, we served just like many other Chinese restaurants. Yep, we did American Chinese food at that time. However, we changed! We started to realize that why not give local Americans a new shot? Let them try something that we eat every day in China. Two years ago, we started to make authentic Chinese food. We mean it. Now, our taste is exactly like we have in China. You may love it deeply or you may hate it deeply, but we keep going on this road and never turn back. If you want to try the Real Taste Chinese FOOD, our restaurant is your best destination.

“One of my favorite places, to the point that I make special trips to it whenever I am in California. Try the Liang Pi. It's spicy, umami, vinegary/tangy, fresh, salty, just the right amount of oil and mind-blowing delicious. A perfect combination of flavors that is such a regional specialty that I haven't seen it anywhere else. Plus, delicious home-made noodles.”

Their Story:
In 2009, we started as a local catering company. With the blessings of family, friends and the block, three years later in 2012, we opened up our shop. It's a casual sit-down eatery experience, all the while still catering parties, weddings, and other events across Southern California. We boogie with you everywhere. This food is the product of a group of friends' adventures growing up and cooking in the hood. This is our party food. What we eat at our celebrations. Mama Leah's coconut beef is a reflection of the Philippine Islands. Ann's cornbread bibingka is the experience of growing up in L.A. Big Tony's hood famous sauce mixes cane, pineapple, simmered soy sauce, peppers and spices, and is the soundtrack to it all. Special Project: Feed the Frontliners Project encourages the community to buy the meals of frontliners during their shifts.

“This place is so good!!! That Filipino home cooking with fusion flare to it! All their BBQs, sides to desserts are all on point! My fave dishes are the tri-tip, short rib, coconut beef, and mac & cheese. The meats are so tender and fall-off-the-bone goodness. The cornbread bibingka is what I look forward to eating when I get food from here. It's the most delicious cornbread I've ever tried. I drool every time I think about eating it. I love the fact that they are also helping out our healthcare heroes by giving them a warm meal during the pandemic.”
The Oinkster

Los Angeles, CA 90041
(Eagle Rock)
Phone #:

Their Story:
The Oinkster aims to be Los Angeles’ antidote to both expensive gourmet meals and their cheap fast food counterparts. On the restaurant’s $10-and-under menu that skips high prices in favor of better flavors, quality will be paramount. Premium sandwiches made with house-cured pastrami or sloooow-roasted pork compete for diners’ attention with juicy burgers made from freshly ground Nebraska Angus beef, first-rate rotisserie-roasted chicken and crispy Belgian fries. Fake fast-food cheese is given a pass in favor of scrumptious Gruyere and yummy sharp cheddar; home-made sauces, dressings and spice rubs share the plate with house-made condiments and crunchy veggies.
Review Quote:
“The meat was delicious! Not too fatty but enough to be flavorful and juicy. Like the toppings on the sandwich and it was a good ratio of meat to bread. The fries were also tasty and mostly crispy.”

East-Meets-West dishes that inspire and evoke a feeling of being welcomed into Chef Vuong's home. Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the seasons. Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around the world.

“Love the atmosphere and food. The Shaky Shaky beef is out of this world. Must order! They have this lemony-peppery sauce to dip the meat that truly tops off the flavor experience. Plus, the tomato rice is a sweet combination for a truly unique meal. The staff was extremely attentive and sweet. Great for a night out with friends or date night. Definitely recommend this place!”

Forty years ago, Berkeley's now-famous cooperative, the Cheeseboard, opened its doors. In 1997, inspired by their own success, they helped open another bakery based on cooperative principles. Arizmendi Oakland debuted that year on Lakeshore Avenue, named after the Basque labor organizer. The endeavor was a hit, so what next? They decided to open another bakery, this time in San Francisco. Once again the group, along with members of the Oakland store, graciously imparted their knowledge of cooperative business practices and shared secrets of their recipes. In October 2000, Arizmendi Bakery San Francisco was born. The Cheeseboard's gift to us has become our gift to the neighborhood.

“The bread is good, the pizza is good, the scones are out of this world. But what I really love here is how amazing the staff are. Everyone I get help from is super friendly and it's like the old days when you used to talk to people in shops and stores.”

Huynh has honed his skills through years of working in Lower East Side kitchens as well as at Smorgasburg. The restaurant is named after the woman who raised him - his grandmother, Lucy. They specialize in Vietnamese American food, Banh mi (sandwiches), pho (noodle soup), vegan pho broth, smoked brisket, vermicelli bowls, fresh summer rolls and Vietnamese ice coffee.
Review Quote:
“One of the best vegan-friendly Vietnamese places that I've been to. Strictly for take out, we ordered their vegan chicken pho and their vegan chicken summer rolls. Not sure how they did it but they got the texture of chicken done right and the seasoning on point. Vegan chicken is made of non-GMO soybeans and cholesterol free. Vegetarian broth is flavored well. While the pho was great, the star of the show is the summer roll. Perfect balance of Thai basil, rice vermicelli, red cabbage with hoisin sauce on the side. It's the perfect appetizer.”
