At UCLA Alumni Affairs, we are always looking for ways to better serve and engage Bruins where they live, work and play. Whether it’s revitalizing existing networks or creating new ones with a smaller regional focus, our team works closely with alumni to find opportunities that address their wants and needs.
Eager to engage the unique and diverse communities that were previously part of the Los Angeles South Bay and Los Angeles Westside networks, three new groups are emerging, which will better connect alumni with each other, their local community and UCLA, in support of the university’s mission of education, research and service:
The new South Bay Network, with more than 25,000 Bruins, stretches from El Segundo to the Palos Verdes Peninsula and includes Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Torrance, Gardena, Hawthorne, Lawndale and Redondo Beach. Led by committed and supportive leaders who are guiding the group during this transition, they are looking for volunteers to participate as board members and to fill other roles.
We are reaching out to alumni in the areas of Long Beach, San Pedro, Carson, Lakewood and Seal Beach to ask for help in choosing a name that truly resonates with them and identifies their region. We have also sent out an email survey to all of those alumni and are gathering their responses to learn more about them, their interests and their hopes for the group. The deadline to respond is Oct. 5. Several volunteers in the region are spearheading the launch of the network, which will engage more than 3,500 alumni. A launch event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15 at Eldorado Bar & Grill (3014 N. Studebaker Rd., Long Beach) in conjunction with a game watching party for the UCLA Football versus Stanford game.
More than 10,000 alumni in Westchester, Playa Vista, Playa Del Rey, Culver City, Del Rey, Mar Vista, Palms, Marina Del Rey and Venice are creating a vibrant new network with programs and events catering to the specific tastes of alumni in these communities. Volunteers will lead this group, and ideas for a name that reflects the unique geography of the area are welcome.
