In this second edition of Bruins in Love, meet four couples, whose stories and backgrounds differ from one another, yet together they share one common experience - a romantic journey that began at UCLA.

Versha Srivastava ’07 and Arjun Patel ’07

Versha and Arjun went on a typical Bruin first date to California Pizza Kitchen after a movie at the Fox Village Theater and completing the night with Diddy Riese for dessert. They first met 11 years ago at their New Student Orientation in Ackerman Union. They continued checking off the Bruin bucket list by creating memories at Crossroads, Puzzles, strolling down BruinWalk, reading in the Sculpture Garden and tailgating with friends at the Rose Bowl.

During Versha’s intern year of residency, after secretly planning with Versha's parents, Arjun whisked her away on a surprise trip to Coronado Island where he proposed on the beach. They were married in Laguna Niguel in May of 2014.

Versha and Arjun are both physicians in Texas, but their first love will always be UCLA. They enjoy traveling, cooking and playing tennis together. Fun fact: for their wedding, Arjun rode an elephant.

Claudete Levin ’71 and Ernest Levin ’66

Claudete and Ernest met in the summer of 1971 when she was taking her last two classes before graduating. Ernest had already graduated with a degree in English and a minor in Spanish but returned to UCLA to take some more language courses. One of Claudete’s friends, a Portuguese teaching assistant at the time, introduced her to her future husband. Both became teachers after graduating from UCLA and are now retired; Ernest taught for 36 years and Claudete taught for 23 years.

They enjoy the educational opportunities of traveling and have spent many summers trekking through Europe and Latin America. Claudete’s favorite Blue & Gold memory is seeing her friends by the Gypsy Wagon, a snack bar trailer that use to be behind Royce. They both enjoyed listening to renowned speakers on the steps of Kerckhoff at noon and going to basketball games coached by John Wooden. Claudete also remembers being on the sixth floor of Rieber Hall when the Sylmar earthquake hit.

They are the proud parents of two women who are also teachers, one got her master’s degree at UCLA. They also have two grandchildren who they hope will be Bruins one day. Claudete and Ernest were married after 6 months and celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary this past Dec. 30.

Weston Gonzalez ’11 and Miles Guidon ’10

In September 2008, Weston’s roommate invited him to a close friend’s party. That friend ended up being Miles. Miles and Weston instantly hit it off and have been together ever since. Their favorite memories at UCLA included popular on-campus events like the Undie Run and Spring Sing. Weston’s involvement with the Student Alumni Association gave him the opportunity to plan some of UCLA’s coolest student-alumni events. Miles was a part of Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed giving back to the community.

Miles is an entrepreneur and runs two businesses with his brother: MOCAP Design and Hollywood 3D Printing. Weston works as the Event Planning Manager for Sony Pictures Television and operates his own event production company, westgarret events.

They love living in West Hollywood, where it’s easy to enjoy LA-style entertainment such as new restaurants, various festivals and movie premieres. Since college, they’ve always loved to travel, and this April they will be spending two weeks in Rome with all of Miles’ family.

Having just celebrated their six-year anniversary in New York last October, they are both looking forward to what 2015 will bring to their relationship and careers.

Saritha Kosarussavadi ’11 and Zach Pennington ’10

Fate, and a little help from housing, placed Saritha and Zach in Rieber Vista during Saritha’s second year and Zach’s third year as undergraduate students. Wanting to create a better experience for the residents living with them, they got involved with residential life and their building’s floor government. One of their collaborations was to plan a dodgeball tournament for Rieber Vista. It was quickly struck down by the Fire Marshal, but even the Fire Marshal couldn’t put out their flame for each other.

Zach is currently pursuing his doctorate degree in behavioral neuroscience in the UCLA Department of Psychology, and Saritha is finishing up her master’s degree in physiology. She also works as a lab manager in a neuroendocrinology lab. In their spare time, they “eat their way through Los Angeles,” enjoying the diverse food culture and exploring new neighborhoods.

Some of their favorite memories are weekend brunches in De Neve Dining Hall, culture night performances by various student groups, and taking night walks around Royce Hall and the Sculpture Garden. This February, Saritha and Zach will be celebrating their sixth anniversary!
