Navigating through UCLA’s maze of information is a skill set all its own. Thankfully, with the advent of smart phones, much of the world’s known information can be accessed with the ease of reaching into your pocket. Enter the UCLA Mobile app. It offers an easy way to find fast and reliable information from your phone or tablet, and for those interested in Bruin info, this free app is a must download. Whether you’re on or off campus, the UCLA Mobile app brings UCLA right to your fingertips.

Director of Academic Application Services at the UCLA Office of Information Technologies, Rose Rocchio, M.B.A. ’00, used her tech background to help create an application that moves UCLA information into the realm of mobile devices. The UCLA Mobile app platform is a streamlined version of some of the most popular information typically found on a variety of UCLA’s many websites. The app serves the diverse populations within the UCLA community with useful information for alumni, students and visitors alike. For alumni, it helps facilitate a connection to UCLA with practical information when visiting campus as well as an easy way to connect to campus remotely.

The UCLA Mobile app has a lot of helpful visitor information for those who find their way back to Westwood. The campus map allows users to search for particular buildings on campus by name and even provides driving directions. The library and recreation section of the app also includes information on building hours of operation which often change throughout the academic year. Another great feature for visitors is the campus tour option. It includes a self-guided tour, complete with pictures of all the locations you will visit. With a campus that is constantly changing and growing this tour is a very helpful tool for re-experiencing UCLA on your next visit.

The app is also beneficial to those who like to know about what’s going on with UCLA, but live nowhere near Westwood. It includes a link to UCLA Athletics, allowing users to browse rosters, look up schedules by sport and find out the latest news and press releases. The app also includes links to the official UCLA social media pages and a campus directory. These resources allow users to interact with campus personnel, as well as other members of the UCLA community, in real time. The UCLA Newsroom link provides up-to-the-minute breaking news stories from research discoveries and medical breakthroughs to visiting dignitaries and campus happenings.

While the UCLA Mobile app already has many useful tools, Rocchio states that this is just the beginning. The app provides an adaptable platform for facilitating collaboration across campus departments and communities so that more Bruin information can be readily available.
