Volunteer for the
Sustainable Bruin Move-out
Help students reduce waste, support nonprofits and give used items new life.
Move-out day can
move UCLA forward
Alumni and parents are invited to volunteer for Sustainable Bruin Move-out, a community effort that helps students donate, repurpose or properly dispose of items they no longer need. From furniture and kitchenware to books, décor and small electronics, many belongings that might otherwise be discarded can be redirected to future Bruins or local organizations that can put them to good use.
Your participation is essential — be the difference!
Move-out day can be stressful for students and overwhelming for the surrounding community. With your help, it can also be organized, purposeful and even fun.
Your time keeps usable items out of landfills, reduces neighborhood
debris and supports UCLA's sustainability commitment.
Volunteers Will Assist With:
- Helping load household items into trucks
- Sorting gently used items for donation
- Answering basic student questions about where items should go
- Directing students at donation and disposal locations
- Supporting a welcoming, helpful and efficient move-out experience
No experience is needed - just a willingness to help and stay flexible as you guide students through move-out.
Acceptable student
donation items include:
- Artwork and décor
- Books
- Kitchenware
- Small electronics and working appliances
- Furniture
- Gently used towels and blankets
- Clothing and small dorm supplies (on campus only)
Some items cannot be donated, such as bedding, mattresses, pillows, medical supplies or electronic waste. Volunteers will guide students in sorting items for proper donation or disposal.
