With less than three months left in the academic year, this is a great opportunity to review and reassess your goals for your mentorship. We encourage you to look back at the Mentorship Agreement that you completed together at the beginning of the academic year. See how you have progressed with what you set out to accomplish together and refresh your goals for the remaining time to make the most of your mentorship. If you feel that it is time to end the mentorship, check out our “Ending Your Mentorship Resource Page.”
Academic and Industry Career Pathway Research: Some of our masters and Ph.D. programs have clear industry pathways, but others may not be as direct. Even if you have been anticipating an academic career, it’s okay to do some research into potential industry pathways that could align with your expertise and experience. For this month’s challenge, brainstorm 3–5 potential industries and roles that would interest you. Are you a humanities Ph.D.? Consider roles that utilize your writing, critical thinking and teaching skills. Is your expertise in the social sciences? Consider roles that allow you to influence organization policies and systems. If you are in S.T.E.M., consider roles that allow you to use your expertise.
