UCLA Alumni Mentor Program
JUNE 2020
Bruins,

In times when words aren’t enough, we can stand together as Bruins to listen, reflect and continue to seek understanding of our individual and shared experiences. If you find yourself anxious, confused or upset, we hope you will turn to your Bruin community, including your mentor, to process your thoughts and emotions. Though the academic year is coming to a close, that doesn’t mean your mentorship has to. Check in with one another to discuss how you’re feeling, your summer goals and how the year went for the both of you. The pandemic and current events impacting our marginalized communities have impacted all of our lives, and we hope that you are able to lean on each other and the Bruin community in these challenging times.

June Challenge: Post a Testimonial

Mentorship can be an impactful experience, yet we never share it with our social network. Let’s celebrate mentorship and make it part of our professional stories.

Our June challenge is for mentor and student to both post testimonials on UCLA ONE and LinkedIn describing their experience in the program. Take screenshots of the posts and email them to our team to be entered into an opportunity drawing for a $20 Postmates gift card.

Concluding the Formal Mentorship

As your formal mentorship is coming to a close at the end of the academic year in June, we encourage you to schedule a final meeting (over the phone/Zoom or via email) to reflect on the past year and your mentorship.

Here are a few things to consider:
  • Review the goals you set at the beginning of the year, and discuss the progress you've made and what you have learned.
  • Mentors, do you have any final advice for your student that would help them on their trajectory? Discuss their future goals and provide feedback and ideas on how they could accomplish those goals.
  • Students, thank your mentor and share what you have valued most from their mentorship.
  • Discuss if and how you'd like to stay in contact in the future.
  • Express your appreciation for each other and the commitment you both made to the mentorship.
