The idea of networking can be confusing, and even daunting, for many students. Mentors,
give your students insight and help alleviate any hesitancy by sharing your best
practices around networking with your student.
Students, this is a great opportunity to get advice about what networking really
is and how to go about it. Be straightforward with your mentor and ask them specific
questions that could empower you to build and utilize your personal and professional
community to gain an edge in your career.

Attend "My Last Lecture" and Mentor/Mentee Dinner Reception
You are invited to the Marty Sklar My Last Lecture Award presentation and a dinner
reception for mentors and mentees preceding the lecture.
The Marty Sklar My Last Lecture Award, established by the Alumni Scholars Club to
honor UCLA professors who inspire their students, is a Bruin tradition, inspired
by Randy Pausch's best-selling book "The Last Lecture." Each year, a student-nominated
UCLA professor is given the opportunity to consolidate all of their life lessons
and advice into a hypothetical “last lecture” according to the prompt:
“What would you say if this were your last lecture on Earth?”
Mentors and mentees will have the opportunity to dine at Covel Commons Dining Hall
and then attend the "My Last Lecture" event, giving alumni mentors the
opportunity to once again experience a lecture given by UCLA faculty. We hope you
are able to join us and share in this Bruin tradition.
Event Details:
Tuesday, May 14
5 - 6:30 p.m.
